Welcome to the web site of Beta Kappa Phi. The site has just been recently updated with more information and features than ever before. Much has been done and much is in planning to be done. Hopefully this site will be able to give you an understanding of who we are, what volunteering we do, and many other things that we are currently up to.

Service

Brotherhood of Beta Kappa Phi has had a long-standing reputation of high standards of service to the Wooster community and beyond. Last year, our main service projects included volunteering at the local Soup Kitchen, working for Habitat for Humanity, and organizing a team for Relay for Life.

This year, Beta Kappa Phi is continuing an older tradition of fundraising. The brothers are doing "The 60 Mile Pitch", an event in which they run along side a bus, one at a time, from The College of Wooster to Progressive field, all while carrying the game ball to throw out at the first pitch. Pledges and donations are all made out the Jimmy V Cancer Foundation. The goal of the event is to raise $4,000 dollars, which we hope and expect to exceed.

Habitat for Humanity works to eliminate poverty housing by building more affordable homes for lower-income families. Last year, all who were able made the trip to the Greater Cleveland headquarters. The day was spent literally tearing down walls to make more space in their warehouse. Our well-honed skills of merciless destruction finally proved beneficial, as our help was greatly appreciated.

Working at the soup kitchen involves a trip to the Salvation Army of Wooster once a week to serve lunch to the needy. Teams of two Brothers are sent in rotation so that everyone has the chance to partake in this simple yet rewarding experience.

2005 was the first year in the annual Relay for Life walk at the College, and has continued since. For an evening and entire night, cancer survivors are honored and cancer victims are remembered as at least one member from each team walks around the track. Money is raised by each team to be used in cancer research and to promote awareness. Team Beta Kappa Phi raised over $500 in under two weeks, and had a memorable night.

Many of our members also do a variety of volunteer work around Wooster on an individual level, from digitally preserving veterans stories to coaching youth soccer teams. We are also looking at many other possibilities to give back to the Wooster Community.

Our Brotherhood strives to maintain an attitude of bettering ourselves and our community through the giving of ourselves and our time. In this way, we hope to enhance the quality of our contribution to our life and to our society.
